This is a recording of my solo performance at Windmill, an independent art space in Seoul, on May 7 and 8, 2022.
Unfortunately, the second half of the performance on the 7th was lost due to the recording engineer’s (my) mistake. Therefore, the recording of the 7th was added to the beginning of the recording on the 8th.
The text below was written for the performance:

「 Programming is an act of transplanting one’s own political consciousness into electrical/electronic actions. The phenomena occurring in nature appear in front of us after a very long period of mutation and evolution, but the electrical/electronic effects of programming induce realistic effects within a short time by realising certain artificial conditions through high-speed operations. In this respect, programming is more like a modern, high-tech form of magic, and coding is more like a specific magic spell.
The sound exhibition '③', which was held last year at the Incheon Art Platform, originated from my realisation during the programming of the sound synthesizer, Pulsar Generator, which was made with the hope of creating non-natural sounds, could be a kind of Sonic Fiction. The experiments using this sound synthesizer require the repetition of three variables in order to output a specific desired sound. The sound effect resulting from this process is a weird thing and difficult to experience directly in our reality, and attempting to actualise this weird thing is similar to performing a magical summoning ritual. Through this summoning ritual, the sound effect that appears with the diffuse reflection of sound in a space is the state in which the weird thing has been summoned into our reality.
The experiment in '③' leads to another experiment called '⑥' by adding three more detailed sub-conditions under the three conditions of Pulsar Generator. Through this process, the rhythms of the sound compressed inside the output single sound are revealed more clearly, while Pulsar Generator itself acts as a catalyst. Here, I would like to check what weird things can be summoned in the space called Windmill in Yongsan by a ritual disguised as an experiment called '⑥'.」

And this is a recording of the situation where the parameters determined by ⑥ constantly cause friction and rupture, and respond improvisedly to the echo of space to become a rhythm, a melody, or a concrete sound having some meaning.



이것은 2022년 5월 7일과 8일 서울의 독립 예술공간 윈드밀에서의 나의 솔로 공연을 녹음한 것이다.
안타깝게도 7일 공연의 후반부는 녹음 엔지니어(나)의 실수로 유실되었다. 따라서, 8일 녹음본의 초반에 7일의 녹음본을 추가하였다.

아래의 글은 당시 공연의 홍보문이다,

「 프로그래밍은 자신의 욕망에 호응하는 정치적 의식을 전기/전자적 작용에 이식하는 행위이다. 자연계에서 일어나는 현상들은 매우 긴 시간 동안 변이와 진화를 거쳐 우리 앞에 나타나지만, 프로그래밍의 전기/전자적 효과는 인위적인 특정 조건을 고속연산을 통해 실현함으로써 짧은 시간 내에 현실적인 효과를 유도한다. 이런 측면에서 프로그래밍은 마법의 현대적 기술에 가깝고 코드는 구체적인 마법의 주문에 가깝다.

인천 아트 플랫폼에서 작년에 진행된 '③'은 비자연적인 소리의 창출을 희망하며 만들어낸 음향 합성기 Pulsar Generator를 프로그래밍하면서 든 생각들이 일종의 음속허구(Sonic Fiction)일 수 있다는 자각에서 비롯되었다. 이 음향 합성기를 통한 실험은 목적하는 특정한 소리를 출력해내기 위해서 3가지 변수들의 반복을 필요로 한다. 이 과정에서 얻어지는 음향적 효과는 우리의 현실 속에서 직접적으로 경험하기는 힘든 기이한 것을 의미하고, 이 기이한 것의 출현을 시도하는 것은 마법적 소환 의식을 행하는 것과 유사하다. 이 소환 의식을 통해 하나의 공간에서 소리의 난반사를 일으키면서 나타나는 음향적 효과란 그 기이한 것이 우리의 현실로 소환된 상태인 것이다.

'③'에서 시도된 실험은 pulsar generator의 3개의 조건 내부에 다시 3개의 세밀한 조건을 추가함으로써 '⑥'이라는 또 다른 실험으로 연결된다. 이 과정을 통해서, 출력되는 단음 내부에 압축되어 있는 소리의 리듬들은 더욱 선명하게 드러나는 동시에 pulsar generator 자체는 하나의 촉매와 같은 역할을 수행한다. '⑥'이라는 실험으로 가장한 이 의식이 용산의 윈드밀이라는 공간에서 어떤 기이한 것을 소환할 수 있는지 확인해보고자 한다. 」

그리고 이 녹음은 ⑥으로 결정된 매개변수들이 공간의 반향에 즉흥적으로 반응하여 리듬이 되거나 멜로디가 되거나 혹은 어떤 의미를 가진 구체적인 소리가 되기 위해 끊임없이 마찰과 파열을 일으키는 상황의 기록이다.
